Something Quite Peculiar - Chapter 01
Chapter One: Reminiscing
The cabin could barely be called a cabin. It was more of a hut: a building in the loosest sense of the word. It had four walls and a roof, a door, a window, and a chimney that looked as though it were ready to fall over. Truthfully, it appeared that a strong gust of wind could knock down the shack, with signs surrounding which read, “Condemned” and “No Trespassing.”
The small structure was concealed behind several large trees, and was incredibly easy to miss, nestled within the forest that rarely anyone ventured into.
It was always snowing around this cabin, regardless of the season.
Inside
His name is Pitch Black,
And scaring is his game,
But he used to go by,
A very different name
Kozmotis Pitchiner,
Was his past name,
Some people wonder,
“Why is it not the same?”
He was a strong General,
Who protected the Golden Age,
And was once a guard,
Of the Fearling’s cage
The Fearlings pleaded and begged,
For Kozmotis to let them go,
But the General shook his head,
And simply said, “No.”
The General would grow weary,
Of doing this every day,
But a silver locket with a picture of his daughter,
Made everything okay
The Fearlings caught sight,
Of the locket in Pitchiner’s hand,
And started to unfold
In the end, they all grow up.
No matter who they are or what they believe in, there comes a point in their lives where magic and the world I live in slips from their minds, replaced by the life ahead of them, whether it be discovering who they are, chasing their fate, or making history. A period of their life ending as another one starts, it's always then it happens.
It's happened before, and I know it'll happen again.
But that doesn't mean it hurts any less.
Each time, I should be ready for it. I should be expecting for the feeling to come back, the loneliness, the pain. But I never am, and each time one walks through
"What's he doing?"
"Shh, Tooth, we don't want him to hear us!"
"Alright, alright..."
"Good...now, come on."
North led us after the footprint trail in the snow, tailing after the kid. Jack had been acting...odd, and well, cold for a few weeks now. Not like himself at all; no smiles, no pranks, and very little snow days were made worldwide. North, Tooth, and Sandy were all extremely worried, mostly because of how they found the kid and I last time he was acting strange. I however, knew what today was...
I didn't really want to follow Jack. Today was a day he'd told me he wanted to keep to himself; a private "day-off

The End
The nurse smiles grimly. "Your grandma's in room 27A. Just down the hall."
"Thank you."
I never liked hospitals.
My footsteps echo off the scrubbed and sanitized walls and ceiling as I make my way down the hall. Fluorescent light bulbs. Over the years, I've come to detest them. They're the dullest of any imitation of the Sun anyone has ever had the stupidity to generate. Everything looks ugly and hopeless under fluorescent lights.
I don't even like the air in a hospital. It's stale with the odor of chemicals and latex, and it puts me on edge. I don'

The humans were having too much fun to notice the mysterious footprints appearing around them and the extra snowballs whizzing through the air. I had just blocked one of Jack's snowballs by shielding myself with my wing, but when I moved it again, a wild shot from Jim hit me right in the stomach. Jack started laughing so hard that he didn't even see my next attack coming until it splattered across his face. I dodged immediately, using Liz as a human shield until she darted sideways to hide herself behind the truck. Jim gave chase and I assumed Jack would come with him, so I ran around the vehicle as well. Suddenly a mound of s

Waking up as a powerless spirit was a strange feeling, and I tried to remember if this was what it had felt like to be human. My muscles were sore, my body felt heavy and uncoordinated, and my wings were numb. Where my senses would normally be resonating with the harmonics of a thousand different compatible people about to meet, now I only felt empty stillness. The visions and information which usually ran through the back of my mind like a constant drone were eerily silent. I almost thought I'd become mortal again until Liz walked right through my body on her way to Sophie's bedside.
“Come on, Soph, time to wake up,&rdq

I couldn't remember the last time I'd shed a tear over anything besides a sentimental book here or there, so I had no idea I could even cry like this. It was uncontrollable and exhausting, and when the sobbing finally ceased, I felt completely empty. I relaxed my hands, only now realizing that I had been clutching fistfuls of the back of Jack's sweatshirt, and leaned back to support my own weight.
Jack's cold hands moved from my back to my shoulders to help steady me and he studied my face carefully, “Are you going to be ok?”
“I lost everything,” I whispered, trying to hide how hoarse my voice

I sat on the cold roof and stared up at the moon in frustration, daring him to send me words of comfort; but he just stared back at me silently. Minutes passed without a sound or a movement. Fear and desperation tightened painfully around my heart as my mind raced through all the consequences of my failure. I needed advice or help. I needed a miracle. I needed the moon to tell me what to do.
“Why are you doing this to me?” I said out loud, the threat of tears causing my voice to waver, “After all our years as friends, why would you be silent now when I need you most? I have no idea what to do; I don't even

As soon as Jamie and Sophie heard the news that a meteor shower was about to start, they both rushed downstairs to retrieve their parents. The children's excitement was contagious enough to get both Jim and Liz up in Jamie's room, crowded around the window with the youngsters. Wanting to give the family some time alone, the other guardians moved up to the roof with me and sat down to watch the show.
“So how's Star doing, Sandy?” Jack teased as he squeezed in to sit between me and Tooth, “You want Cupid to shoot her for you?” He elbowed me playfully.
I smiled at Sandy's bashful expression, “Oh, don
